Whether we like it or not, we are being judged all the time by the people that we meet. This can not be any more true than during an interview. Whether it is an HR representative, a Manager or the CEO, you can be assured that they are sizing you up. So what are some things that you will be judged on? For starters, your appearance and personal characteristics. Are you well groomed? Do you look like a professional? Do you have good manners? Do you have good eye contact? If you answered no to any of these, you do not get to move ahead. It does not matter how good you would be in the job, you must past these basics. When you get into the interview, you will be judged on your self expression. When answering questions are you forceful or obscure with your answers or your questions? You do not want to be vague.
As you move through the interview process, you can rest assured that they will be checking out your personality. Are you shy or outgoing? Are you overbearing or tactful? Are you enthusiastic about the position? Are you interested in the company and show it by doing your due diligence on the company? Do you have a good attitude?
And you can't forget about your experience. This is where you want to point out your career successes. Are you involved with professional organizations? Have you taken the time to expand your knowledge base? Have you earned certifications or designations?
These are simple things, but they can mean success or disaster for your future with the prospective company. It is the little things that count even after the interview. Were you pleasant with the receptionist? These folks can have a major influence on your success. Many times after the interviewee leaves, the person conducting the interview will talk with the receptionist and get their opinion. Whether you like it or not, you will be judged, so be ready and prepare.
