As you prepare for your job search, one area that you need to place some attention to is the selection of your references. Some will say that it is not a big deal with who you select as your references, but I would not risk it. Many people think that is it a good idea to list personal references. That move may not in your best interest. You need to provide references that are familiar with your work. So, who make the best references? Many people think your supervisor will make a good reference. But that is not always a good move. Many in the career coaching profession suggest that you use your customers - both internal and external. These are the folks that are familiar with your work. Don't forget about your colleagues. If you have worked with them on a project, they are vary familiar with your work and style. They are well suited to provide specifics about your work. This is the type of information that hiring managers want to hear. They want to know that your can do the job, not hear about how great a person you are.
One thing that you must not forget, is to get your references approval prior to adding them to your list. By taking some time in this area, your job search can be much more successful
